The Benefits of Vulnerability

I have been pondering some big words, like vulnerability and helplessness lately. 

For me, being a very independent person and mostly a loner, asking for help and vulnerability are all uncomfortably woven together.

I have spent a lot of time in Senegal, West Africa where people live naturally in community and extended families.  I learned that the extreme ìhyper-independenceî in my American culture is really a kind of sickness, a pathologyÖan unhealthy way of being.

Methylisothiazolinone (MI) is a chemical added to toothpaste, mouthwash, lotions, shampoos, dish soaps and laundry detergents that increases product shelf life, but also acts as a potent trigger for angry inflammation, allergic reactions, mouth sores and skin rashes.  These are signs of harm and damage.

Many companies are voluntarily removing MI from their products.

"It's ronna@betterafter50.com," I told her.

I repeated the address, to make sure she knew not to spell out the 'fifty.'

"It's Better after 5-0" I said.

I hesitated, but couldn't help myself. "Isn't that ironic?" I asked.

"Huh?"
