Actress Fran Drescher inspires students with stories of obstacles that became opportunities

Actress Fran Drescher sure didn't disappoint the 30 or so girls who gathered at Aurora Central High School on Monday, talking about obstacles in her life and explaining how she overcame them.

She told them how she was raped and how she survived cancer to become an advocate for women's health issues.

Drescher also recalled how she met a television producer on a plane and pitched the idea for the television show "The Nanny," in which she eventually starred.

"You have to take those opportunities," Drescher said.  Senior Kayla Nagy said Drescher is a woman with a lot of insight.  "I was very inspired by Fran," she said.

The girls also had good things to say about Susan Daggett, wife of U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet and an accomplished attorney who rose from a small town to prominence.

Senior Brittney Hernandez said Daggett inspired her to do big things one day.

"Susan came from a small town and made her life into something," Hernandez said. "That's what I am trying to do." Carlos Illescas
