In Memoriam of Elizabeth Edwards
"Elizabeth Edwards was an inspiration. The trials she faced in her life made her someone who all Americans could relate to. Like many strong women before her, women like Gilda Radner and Coretta Scott King, we lost her because we are not yet good enough at finding cancer early. Cancer is the leading cause of death in the world, and I hope that, in honor of Elizabeth, more doctors, health policy experts, and elected officials will see the need for a sustained national effort to promote prevention of cancer and early detection. We must transform from passive patients into active medical consumers, in honor of Elizabeth, and in honor of the thousands of Americans we lose every day to this dreaded disease."
