Fall Frenzy: Your Health & Visceral Fat
Last Sunday I kept my commitment to myself and set aside time on Sunday, the first day of autumn, to do some fall planning. It could not have been a more perfect setting or day. Sailing on the ocean watching pods of dolphins swim by and seeing two blue whales in the distance was an amazing setting to plan for the fall. I think it’s important to create a space that will enable you to have clarity to focus on what you truly want for yourself and how you plan on getting there.
After assessing my client’s biometrics it was not surprising that most of them want to shed a few summer pounds after wearing clothes that have no “reference points” over the past several months. The most shocking numbers on the scale to them was their visceral, aka belly fat. Excess visceral fat leads to heart disease, cancer, stroke, arthritis, type 2 diabetes, and even sexual dysfunction. Knowing how dangerous too much visceral fat is to our bodies, I want to devote the next few blogs to address some of the major weight loss myths that are out there. And guess what? It pretty much comes down to the same answer: detoxification due to inflammation! Inflammation caused by the toxins in our homes, cosmetic products, foods etc. As you know, our fat cells love to store acid and toxins and when they are saturated with these it is much harder to lose fat. As soon as we clean up our environment, including our diets, and start doing the RIGHT exercises the weight will literally fall off!
One of the important facts about visceral fat is that it doesn’t just sit there. This toxic “goop” circles all of your organs secreting chemicals that increase inflammation throughout your body. It also affects your cardiovascular system by causing your blood pressure to rise.
Your metabolism is also being governed by this excess visceral body fat. In addition to this, a protein called adiponectin, which is involved in fatty acid break down is diminished, and when you do not have enough of it, it tells your body to store more belly fat! This is a vicious cycle to poor health.
Having a lean belly is such an important key to good health. Not only will you feel better, sleep better, have a healthier heart, but you will be spending less money on medical bills and more money on the things you want to do in life!
Next week I will address myth #1: Fat Makes You Fat AND what type of exercise you need to do to maximize fat loss.
Have a great week,
