The link between stress and acidity
Your emotional state affects the pH level in your body.
A study was published in the European Heart Journal in 2008 looking at 10,308 male and female civil servants aged 35–55 who worked in London, England. The study began in 1985 with interviews and testing and the participants were tracked for 14 years.
The results: People experiencing work stress were more than twice as likely to have heart disease than those without work stress. Heart disease is one of the top three killers in the U.S. which is caused by inflammation, resulting from acidosis.
One of the findings: stress affected the neuron-endocrine system, causing higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol in workers tending towards anxiety.
Dr. Dean Ornish showed this in his work with Coronary heart disease patients. The greatest improvement of Coronary health in his patients came from those who learned to relax at will, no matter what the emotional environment around them. This would explain to a large degree, how some people who drink and smoke live to be 90 years old. I have met these types of people, and the one thing about most of them was their lack of stress. My grandfather is one of these people. He smoked for 25 years but had an active low stress life; he is still with me today at age 104! Go Grandpa!
Your thoughts are as real as any physical object you have ever felt, touched or physically handled.
Remember, thoughts are things in the body so don’t believe everything you think. Thoughts have no power. The power is if you say yes or no to them. Pay attention to your thoughts and breathe. Good thoughts are good because we embrace them, bad thoughts are good because we release them. If you don't release your negative thoughts you start to self sabotage.
- Exercise. Working out is a proven method to calm the mind and relax the body during stressful times. Hormones are release during exercise that helps us focus better on things and it brings us more balance. People who exercise daily also sleep better and have a stronger immune system.
- Aromatherapy. A few drops of essential oils in a bath, on a tissue or cotton ball to smell or in some boiled water to scent the room can lift your spirits, soothe your nerves, combat fatigue and tension.
- Deep Breathing. Deep breathing frees your mind of negativity and provides a sense of inner peace and tranquility. It will quiet and clear the mind of distractions. You will feel much more content and relaxed. The best part is you can do this anytime, anywhere as it only takes a few minutes.
- Laughter. Whoever said laughter is the best medicine is so right. I would always feel better after a good laugh. Naturally, you would feel more lighthearted and positive.
