Cancer Schmancer celebrates its one year anniversary!
June 21, 2008 (Los Angeles, CA) - International celebrity, New York Times best-selling author and cancer survivor, Fran Drescher, is celebrating the first birthday of her charitable organizations, the Cancer Schmancer Foundation and the Cancer Schmancer Movement, on June 21st, which also marks her eighth anniversary of wellness from uterine cancer. The anniversary celebration takes place Saturday, June 21, 2008 at SIMON LA Restaurant at Hotel Sofitel LA.
As a cancer survivor who was misdiagnosed and mistreated for two years by eight doctors before being diagnosed with uterine cancer, Fran Drescher has made it her life’s mission to shift the course of women’s health history by launching Cancer Schmancer on June 21, 2007 to ensure that all women with cancer are diagnosed in Stage 1, when it is most curable.
Hollywood stars, cancer survivors and supporters will join Drescher in celebrating the Cancer Schmancer Movement’s and Cancer Schmancer Foundation’s bold achievements since their national launch one year ago. Such achievements include the Cancer Schmancer Movement’s success in helping secure $6.5 million in HHS Appropriations for Johanna’s Law, also known as the Gynecologic Cancer Education and Awareness Act, for a national gynecologic cancer education campaign led by CDC. To educate women about the early warning signs, risk factors, and tests that are available for the early detection of women’s cancers, the Cancer Schmancer Foundation developed and distributed the Cancer Schmancer Tea Party DVD, hosted by Fran Drescher.
At the anniversary luncheon, Fran Drescher will speak on the need to empower women with knowledge, enable them to become better partners with their physicians, transform patients into medical consumers, and to galvanize them into one collective voice on Capitol Hill. Guests will enjoy dishes created by Iron Chef winner Kerry Simon, a live acoustic performance from Caitlin Crosby, as well as the opportunity to shop in a silent auction that features a “walk-on” to the set of the HBO hit series “Entourage,” a Miley Cyrus autographed electric guitar, a pop portrait of Barbara Streisand, works by George Hurrell, and much more. Jeweler to the stars, Lori Wilkins Immerman will also be on hand, and will donate a portion of proceeds to the Cancer Schmancer Foundation.
